Philosophy of Change

Japan has been known for a myriad of descriptions and culture references, but a large part of it's reputational backbone lies in it's legendary resilient nature. Although we've heard of Kaizen from companies such as Motorola or adverts from other Japanese companies, Kaizen has a deeper meaning beyond business and management. In Japanese culture, Kaizen permeates through the walls of it's corporations, and onto the fabric of daily life. Join us as we dive deep into what makes this culture thrive in the story of change and perpetuity.

Value of Service

Everybody can attest to the experience of how their perception of customer service changed after going to Japan. Beyond the bowing, the courteous gestures, and the proper table-side manners, Japan has a culture based on the value of providing amazing service day in and day out. With the incoming Olympic hosting in Tokyo in 2020, we've seen tourism adverts and articles sprouting up talking about Omotenashi. But what is it really? Follow us as we discover the roots of Omotenashi and what it really means to the Japanese culture.

Kaizen - Learn Ikebana

Ikebana is the art of flower arrangement and before you think this is limited to only women and aging housewives, let MarahuyoGuides stop you there. Ikebana is more than just the cutting and placing of stems, flowers, and twigs. It's actually therapeutic. It's even more rewarding to discover the principles and foundations of what makes it what it is today.

Omotenashi - Stay in a Ryokan

Ryokan is what a mom and pop bed and breakfast is to the Japanese. Think of cozy, warm, and beautiful and you'll instantly describe what Ryokans are. These inns are callbacks to the generational tradition of service in Japanese culture. Stay in one and we can make sure you'll never forget about it. In a good way of course.

Kodawari - Watch a Mochi Making Session

Mochi, they're pretty awesome rice cakes aren't they? You know what would make it even more awesome? Did you know that these things are traditionally made by beating the hell out of rice? All that destructive power creating cute and delicious delicacies. Pretty awesome by our standards. On a more serious note, the artisans shout while they beat the rice. On a more serious, serious note, we might be thinking of a career shift.
