Travel guides are well and many during this time of tech, digital and social media. You have big corporates, small to medium-sized operations, down to the individual amateur on guerilla social media. To say that we're oversaturated with them is an understatement. So what does MarahuyoGuides aim to do given that we started off with that opening? Well first off, we're not your ordinary, everyday travel guide. We're your digital repository of relevant cultural information in this day of information indulgence. Think of us as a digital minimalistic travel editorial written by Anthony Bourdain or Fyodor Dostoyevsky.
We simplify the process of discovery and experience by focusing on the identity of the places we've been to, and the stories they've told us. So, we'll skip the where to go and the what to do and we'll dive into the who to get to know and what to understand. We aim to create love letters to countries we have fallen in love with, in the hopes of letting you fall in love in the process of discovery and experience as well.
We are after all named after the tagalog verb, Marahuyo. Which simply means, to enchant. It is after all a romantic thing, to travel. But with the amount of social media, sharing, and technology interfering with the overall experiences, it becomes quite hard to fall in love in it's truest sense. That's where we come in.
So we kick off our first edition, with a trip to Japan. Let us help you get to know Japan in a way you've never gotten to know it before. If you think Japan is amazing, wait till you find out what we know. So if you're the one to break away from the norm, and you're willing to permeate through tourist lines and travel lists, read on, visitor. Dare to be different and break the chain of routinary travel. Marahuyo ka sa biyahe!
Yours truly,
MarahuyoGuides Team
Discovering things nowadays takes one click of a mouse and or a trackpad. We're lucky to live in a world where information thrives at the click or touch of a button. It would be routinary to expect that we're using the information for some good at the very least. Sadly, not all do. Discovering things has now become a contest on social media, who found out first, or who's getting the most engagement. Less on the informational purposes, more on the selfies and geo-tags. So we're hoping to change that paradigm. Let's go back to the basics of what discovering things, places, and people are all about. That is of course, to learn and experience. Wisdom is after all, knowledge put to good use. So, go on and click that button. You've made it this far.
This generation has taken so much flak from the previous generations, to some depressing degree, even from the very people who raised us. The millennials are not lazy, we're not entitled. Well, maybe some are. But the defining charateristic of our generation has always been about our pursuit for quality experiences. We're all trying to get out of this rat race, trying to find meaning and purpose. Daring to question the borders of human curiousity. So enough about just reading and learning, we're going to continue stirring that millennial pot of experience, and offer up some culturally-relevant experiences that all of you can partake in. Hopefully, allowing visitors to leave as friends of the places they've been to, leaving behind a piece of their hearts in the process.
